Gondeshwar Temple,Sinnar ,Maharasthra

On our way to Shirdi Sai Baba Temple we came across this beautiful vedic style 11th century Shiva temple which was totally abandoned. This made us the only visitor and the view was breathtaking as any place we go its always crowded and we cant pray peacefully or we cant gaze at the structure with loving eyes as no privacy is maintained. It was a great feeling as we didn't encounter any guides or any crowd taking selfies rather thsn admiring the temple or vendors selling sugar candies. Just Me and the Temple complex.
Its was scotching hot so sid decided to sit under the shed near the entrance where I took  my sweet time to behold the temple structure and do some Vedic study on this forgotten structure hidden in the narrow streets of a small town Sinnar, near Nasik

Marvellous View Free from HUMANs
  • The entrance of the complex is from exact South called Yam padh in vedic vastu.
  • The Temple is made on the centre of the complex which makes it perfectly on the bramhasthan. This is a very good vastu setup.
  • As per vastu a building on the bramhasthan must be made a little higher similar to a Tulsi plant with a pedestal.
  • There are four pious corners in vastu known as Northeast ,southeast, southwest and northwest. These are termed as Vidhisha. In this Temple complex we find that there are four shrines on each of these corners, where Northeast shrine is assigned to Lord Surya .Northwest shrine to Ma Parvati ,Southwest shrine to Lord Ganesha and Southeast to Lord Vishnu Temple.

A tattered tortoise in the middle of the main shrine i.e The Bramhasthan. A tortoise in the Bramhasthan is a great symbol of strength and teaches us life's best lessons which is why it's best kept in the centre which keeps reminding us that we have to learn to control our senses for a longer healthier life.

An Octagonal Mandala on the ceiling of the temple complex. these symmetrical drawings have great importance in vedic vastu.

A Shiva with A Yoni projecting towards North. The outlet of this is always towards north.as per the the vastu concept water must always flow from south to north and  north is the best position for a water body
A Stone Column carved with Apsara. The base of the column is kept broader as mentioned in the vedic texts

Columns unlike today's pillars which were carved intricately

Detailed carving on the outer surface.

Heavily carved entrance. As per Samrangan Sutradhar granth its good to have goddess laxhmi on the centre of the upper frame of the entrance. As per vastu Entrances are the main gateway for energy to enter a premises so they must be grand and beautiful

As expected temple faces 90 degree East.

Nandi on the East outside the Main Temple

Four Shrines on the Corners -2 are visible here.

The shed next to Main Entrance. This shed where sid sat would have given shelter to many.During the day the floor gets very hot but once we are in the interiors its cooler. Such is the property of the Black stone which is used for construction of this Complex which was procured locally.

Entrance is rather small and narrow and of less grandeur.Feeling is as though you are falling from a small flight into the open sky. Astounding!!!

I dedicate this blog to my Architect Friend Tanisha from Australia who called and asked me not to miss this temple at any cost. Yes baby there is A great mysterious awe-inspiring Energy in this Complex. Thanks once again.
